Muteero Farms, a joint venture between VMD Agro and local partners, is East Africa’s largest Aquaponics facility. Phase 1, 2500 sqm, has been operational since October 2018, and produces upto 70+ tons/year of chemical-free leafy green vegetables and herbs. With a growing area smaller than half an acre the facility has the same production capacity as compared to 15 acres of soil production all while saving upwards of 450,000 litres of water monthly.

At Muteero Farms in Karen, Nairobi, we have grown over 50 varieties of leafy greens, vegetables, and herbs, ranging from lettuce, spinach, kale, pac choi, mustard greens, basil, and coriander.

System Specifications:

Site Size: 2.5 acres (10,000 square meters)

Greenhouse Size: 1512 square meters

Construction Time: 4-6 months

Output (assuming no product mixing): 40-75 tons of lettuce and various leafy greens

Operational Details:

Fish Capacity: 1,600 kilograms

Water Capacity: 325,000 Liters

Solar System: 3KW with 800 Ampere hour backup

Water Consumption: 16,000 liters per month

Staffing Requirements: Four farm hands and one manager
