Commercial Farms

Kenya

Muteero Farms, a joint venture between VMD Agro and local partners, is East Africa’s largest Aquaponics facility. Phase 1, 2500 sqm, has been operational since October 2018, and produces 70+ tons/year of chemical-free, organic certified leafy green vegetables and herbs. Click here to learn more.

India

We have partnered with Samaki in Bangalore, India. Situated on a 5 acre site, Phase 1 of the farm in Bangalore, India began operations in early 2020. Phase 1 is 3000 sqm and will yield 60-90+ tons of organic leafy vegetables, with distribution in local restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, and direct to customer. Click here to learn more.

Serbia

In 2020 VMD Agro and Urban Organika partnered to produce a 3000 sqm aquaponic facility in the town of Kikinda, about 130km from the capital Belgrade. As one of the first and largest Controlled Environment Agriculture facilities in Serbia, Urban Organika is providing organic leafy green vegetables throughout Belgrade, and other parts of Serbia.


Research

Cameroon

Since 2018, VMD Agro has partnered with the African Centre for Renewable Energy & Sustainable Technology (“ACREST”) to operate a research, educational, and training facility to develop high-skilled modern Agricultural talent in Africa. The facility also serves as a research and development facility to understand the application of Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) methods in an undeveloped rural region, to study crop specific grow methods, and to collect data on agricultural yields in the region.

 
 

Partners

Samaki

Samaki is a grower and aggregator of organic and high quality fresh fruits and vegetables in India. The Urban Farm Co. manages end to end supply chains direct from farmers to both B2B customers and to retail customers through its partnerships with last mile retailers. Located in Bangalore, the company main focus is in securing supply, processing capacity, and improving logistics.

Greenhouse Marketplace

Greenhouse Marketplace is Cameroon’s first large scale hydroponics farm operator, bringing greenhouse hydroponic production of high quality vegetables to Central Africa’s largest port city, Douala, Cameroon. Phase 1 will produce 1500 tons of vegetables annually, scheduled to open in Q3 2021.

Precious Talent School

Precious Talent School is located in an impoverished area of Nairobi, Kenya, and provides lunch and a take home meal program for 150 children. VMD Agro built an Aquaponics system to demonstrate the impact of modern food production systems and provide the meal program with healthy fresh vegetables at a lower cost.

 

ACREST

The African Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology (ACREST) is a Cameroon-based association created in 2003 with a focus on the promotion of sustainable technology and low cost renewable energies to improve the living conditions of populations in Africa. ACREST has active projects in hydro, solar and wind energy, bio-fuel, clean water supply, improved stoves, and food processing.

BLOOM PROJECT

VMD Agro built and tested BLOOM Project’s Agritube low-cost Hydroponics system in our Nairobi facility. After 12 months of testing, it was concluded that the low-cost system is financially feasible for small-holder farmers to operate profitably.
