What We Do
VMD Agro specializes in planning and implementing climate finance projects in developing countries. We’ve worked with the private sector, NGO’s, inter-governmental agencies, and governments to implement projects in the sustainable agriculture, housing, renewable energy, and carbon credit sectors.
We apply climate resilient sustainable development methods in urban and rural regions.
We promote climate resilience through planning and implementation of climate adaptation strategies and climate finance projects.
VMD Agro also specializes in designing, building, and operating Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) food production systems, off grid renewable energy systems, and sustainable housing development, helping commercial, academic, and non-government investors solve challenges in the Water, Energy, and Food sectors.

Why CEA?
Improvements in Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) methods is bringing a fundamental change in how our food supply chains operate today. Food production is shifting to closer to customers in urban and suburban centers, and in areas where the climate is not favorable for food production. Climate change, dwindling water resources, increasing transportation costs, and a shift in demographics make CEA production facilities economically viable in most parts of the world today.
CEA facilities produce vegetables free of chemicals, pesticides, and fertilizers commonly found in most soil grown vegetables. CEA offers numerous advantages over conventional farming, including over 30% reduction in grow cycles, over 60% increase in planting density, and the ability to grow year-round. Furthermore, CEA allows up to 97% reduction in water usage compared to soil based farming, allowing CEA facilities to be constructed in areas with poor water resources. VMD Agro’s farms in India and Kenya can be run off grid, as we use harvested rainwater as our primary water source, and solar panels for energy needs.
Advisory
We help individuals, investors and organizations establish small to large scale CEA facilities for educational, aesthetic, and industrial purposes. We also consult on sustainability projects in the Water, Energy, and Food sectors in the regions we are active in.
Partnerships
We look for partnerships with government, local and international companies to implement improved agriculture and development methods in developing countries and regions affected by climate change. VMD Agro has helped partners construct sustainable housing, develop greenfield CEA facilities, as well as assisted in setting up solar based micro grids in rural regions.
R&D
Research and Development of CEA methods is conducted at our project sites in Kenya, India, Cameroon, and Serbia. We are currently developing the following:
Processes that allow 30-50% higher yield than other Aquaponic or Hydroponic farms
Automated Traceback system from seed to harvest
IoT based data-logging integration with traceback system
Statistical batch analysis for growth and yield metrics
Yield prediction
Web and app-based Farm Management System
